LA Homelessness is a huge problem
And the BBC has sought to report on it. You should read the LA Homeless blog if you live in LA.
William Shatner vs. Conrad Quilty-Harper
The reason for this flub? Thatcher is the name of the little pug that I live with, and I’d had a bit to drink…
CES 2008 craziness - “Let it flow”
On one day of CES 2008 Michael Gallagher and I went out to do some “man on the street” interviews with attendees of the show (here’s the full, polished version). One of the interviews wasn’t publishable - a half hour song by one attendee, who had enough of all the money dealings going on at the show. See above, and please… let it flow. FYI, the question that sparked this singing was “what do you think of CES?”
The future of education
Jeff Jarvis ponders how the internet will affect education. “Why should my son or daughter have to pick a single college and with it only the teachers and courses offered there?”
In response, I give you a video (over the internet) by BBC News which includes an interview with my mother Fiona Quilty. As principal of St. Anselm’s Catholic School in Canterbury, my mother helped set up a partnership with six local schools: students are able to ‘pick and mix’ different courses at any of these schools, as long as they set it up six months ahead. I’m very proud!

What I’ve been doing recently
-Producing Mahalo Daily, an online video show hosted by Veronica Belmont. I research show ideas, arrange for press passes, book interviews and events, and pitch in with the camera when needed.
-Living in Santa Monica, a few blocks away from Mahalo.
-Reading Lincoln Lawyer, by Michael Connelly.
-Visiting Santa Monica beach as often as I can.
-Watched The Room at the end of last month. You should watch our interview with the director, Tommy Wiseau.
-Visited NYC with the family who flew over from England. Saw Cai Guo-Qiang’s amazing exhibition at the Guggenheim, met up with Jeff Jarvis at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, met up with Randall Bennett at CNET (join the 404’s Facebook group!), checked out MoMA and took a pic of my favorite painting, saw MacBeth at the Brooklyn Academy, saw the Bill of Rights, ate lots of Pizza and took lots of cab and subway rides. It was a really great trip.
