Lots of outrage on Twitter about Dannii Minogue’s comments about Danyl on X-Factor. The quote is here, on an MSN live blog of the event.
“I thought it was an amazing X Factor performance, but if the papers are anything to go by, you didn’t need to change those gender references.”
@krishgm I don’t think Dannii meant that as it came out…but it was bloody stupid thing to say
@darrenwaters Oh my god. The Danni comment is unbelievably crass and appalling. Homophobic fucktart. I’m outraged.
@charlesarthur It wasn’t just that Dannii said it once, but that she said it *twice*. Cheryl probably getting flashbacks to CBB.

I think she meant this as a very open and sort of conspiratorial reference and just didn’t realise how much of a bigot she was making herself sound. Its always funny, how people who think they are hugely tolerant, end up sounding SO much worse than if they had just kept quiet. Stories that start excitedly “My beautiful Jamaican friend, its so funny, she doesn’t even like watermelon, or jazz!”

Homophobic? Dannii supports Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, wore those ‘Fight Homophobia’ t-shirts in 2005 and clocked up more appearances at G-A-Y than I care to remember. A stupid comment, yes. A homophobic one? Absolutely not.

Danni has to leave the show after that comment. She totally and on purpose humilated that boy on the show which is meant for a family audience. His sexual orientation does not affect the way he performs so there was no need to mention it. Danni better be ready for the public reaction!!!

Following this weekend’s X-Factor, you cannot begin to imagine how unbelievably embarrassed & incensed I am as an Australian, now resident in the UK. Danni’s unbelievably insensitive, hurtful, irrelevant, cruel & soul-destroying comments regarding Danyl were as uncalled for as they were vitriolic. Certainly, she does NOT represent me as an Australian & I have lost every iota of respect I ever had for her.
My advice to Danyl & X-factor would be to do her for sexual discrimination & then put her on the First available aircraft back to Melboring where she belongs.
For the record, Danyl, you were brilliant. I loved it & I look forward to your further performances & your being a winner.
